Content notes
#The main work this draws on is Bungo and Alchemist. The protagonist is a female librarian. It gets a little Mary Sue-ish, but there are no otome or self-insert romance elements.
#Contains lots of stereotypes and Bungo Stray Dogs references. If you’re a devoted fan of Bungo and Alchemist, I recommend not reading this. You can block the author or the story. If it happens to show up on your homepage and bothers you, please accept my sincere apologies. I’m truly sorry. "Bows deeply."
#There are many conflicts and misunderstandings, and the female librarian is an ordinary Chinese person. If you’re not mature in your outlook or have a low tolerance for this kind of thing, please avoid reading. Thank you for understanding.
#There are private settings everywhere. The only thing I can guarantee is that there are no couples.
Wu Chengwu is a girl whose name makes people think she’s a man. An ordinary person who is not quite ordinary, she never imagined she could become a librarian until her boss ordered her to do it.
Oh, wait. She doesn’t manage books. She manages authors.
Xiao Wu looks at the books her boss has given her, including I Am a Cat, Rashomon, and No Longer Human, and falls into thought. Even though she’s a short-video addict who doesn’t particularly like reading and a fan of dark jokes, she knows perfectly well that these authors are Japanese and have been dead for a long time. Is it really reasonable to ask her to do this?
Her boss smiles faintly. “But you’re the only suitable person.”
Xiao Wu: “I don’t speak Japanese.”
Her boss: “That’s fine. It’s actually just right... I mean, there’s a translation device. Don’t worry, you’re not expected to talk to them. Your job is just to investigate the library and keep it running. And the investigation is mostly for show. The library has been around for six years, and the System is mature. You just have to leave things to your assistant. So, how about six months of paid leave?”
Xiao Wu: “...Fine.”
But Xiao Wu never expected that a clash between alchemy and her own supernatural abilities would send her to a different world. Faced with hideous, ferocious cursed spirits, she immediately steps in front of the gentle, long-haired teacher with glasses, whips out talismans, and tears through them. The teacher’s folding fan drops to the ground in shock, while a white-haired teacher with an eyepatch over one eye excitedly takes notes for his research.
When Gin points a gun at her head, she gestures for the black-and-red-clad boy with golden hair behind her to lower his weapon and not act rashly. Smiling warmly, she pulls an exquisitely carved wooden box from some mysterious place on her person and tells him it can extend a person’s life. His gaze grows even more intense, and her smile only widens.
And then there’s the enormous, mysterious pit that appears in Yokohama. Xiao Wu looks at the teacher beside her, still eating yokan, and the other teacher, who is holding a baseball bat and wants to teach her how to play. She starts to speak, stops, then tries again. She’s sorry, but she really has no idea what to do.
This is a story I’m writing after being a fan of Bungo and Alchemist for a long time and only now daring to try my hand at it. The earlier parts will focus on the librarian spending time with the teachers in the library, communicating and dealing with misunderstandings. Updates are whenever I feel like it, because getting to know an author really does take a lot of time. This is probably the kind of thing I write for myself, but if you’re willing to read and comment, please accept my heartfelt thanks. And with that, the adventures and reading journey of the librarian named Wu Chengwu, nicknamed 25, officially begin!
Theme: Communication is the foundation for dispelling misunderstandings and understanding one another.
