Listen: On Which Night Was the Love I Once Confessed Answered?

I've always hoped a tree would grow from my body

A nest and clouds might grow from it

Or a little tuft of grass, hiding an earthworm

May I be forgiven

May I find peace in the soil

But let me caress the distance in the form of flowing water

And listen to the love I once spoke of

On which night it received an answer

Yu Xiuhua, “If I Were to Die”
