Wen Nianjiu was the last little fox spirit of the Red Fox clan. Born frail, she lived peacefully among humans with her mortal grandmother.
Until one day, she casually picked up a handsome stranger.
She and the stranger joined the Qingyang Sect together.
She and the stranger fell into a demon's trap together.
Even after her legs had been eaten away to white bone, she still carried the stranger back to the Qingyang Sect, taking one step after another.
Little Fox felt differently about the stranger than she did about anyone else. Baihu Xiaoyu said she had fallen for him.
It wasn't until the stranger drew his sword and slew the demon that she learned he wasn't a stranger at all.
He was the most powerful and revered figure across the Six Realms, the Supreme Celestial Venerable of Zilin Xuhua from the stories: Si Xuan.
Si Xuan took her to the Celestial Realm, where she learned he already had someone in his heart.
For that person, Si Xuan not only personally cut open her skull and took the divine artifact her parents had left her, oh dear~
He also beat her until her soul scattered.
Wen Nianjiu finally understood. No wonder the strongest immortal in the Celestial Realm was willing to stay with a little demon like her. She had been born incomplete, and no matter how many tens of thousands of years she lived, she could never become an immortal.
Even if she stayed by Si Xuan's side for thousands upon thousands of years, she still couldn't compare to the way Fairy Fuqing smiled sweetly at him. Besides, she wouldn't live that long. Born with a crippled body, she would only live to the age of seven hundred.
If that was the case, why bother cultivating so hard? She might as well live freely among mortals.
Later, everyone said that Fairy Fuqing cared deeply for all living beings and had gone to Mount Cangxie to guard against demons. Once she returned, she would marry Si Xuan.
Xiao Jiu felt nothing. All she wanted was to spend what little time she had left in peace among mortals.
Then one day, the High Immortal Fuqing came to her door, eyes red-rimmed. Only then did Xiao Jiu learn that the rumors drifting down from the heavens about Si Xuan's disappearance were true.
Xiao Jiu didn't know how she got to the Realm of Li Nan. When she arrived, she didn't see the figure she'd imagined a thousand times and come to know by heart.
She saw only immortal bones, radiant with righteousness and suppressing evil. Her name was carved into them.

As the most exalted and powerful Supreme Celestial Venerable of Zilin Xuhua, famed throughout the Six Realms, Si Xuan had long since transcended the Six Realms. But after meeting a little fox, he once said this to his close friend, Siming:
If a fate is destined to be incomplete, with no solution in sight, I refuse to accept it.
