The logic is a mess, and the headcanons are everywhere.
"You show them far too much favoritism." A strange man wearing a mask spoke as if to himself. Oddly, there was nothing around him that might answer, and the language he spoke was not any known language.
"I've always been this way, Gakufis." An androgynous "human" appeared from nowhere. "You're only an observer, after all."
His feet were bare, and his only clothing was a robe. Even calling it a robe was a stretch; at first glance, it looked like nothing more than a piece of fabric.
Aside from the long white hair flowing behind him, three tattoos stood out on the parts of his body not covered by the robe: an inverted purple crown on the right side of his neck, a strange little flower beneath his right eye, and a white seashell on his right wrist, intermittently hidden by his robe.
Gakufis smiled helplessly and didn't argue. He merely glanced at the other's right hand. "You should know better than I do that directly devouring them would yield far more power and benefit them much more. Besides, those two came right to us on their own."
"If I devour them directly, they'll sense it. They'll reject that method, and if I force it, they'll be unhappy, won't they?"
"Seven Three..."
"I don't like you calling me that."
Looking into the other's clear blue eyes, Gakufis sighed inwardly. "Sorvegliante."
"That name sounds much better." Sorvegliante raised his right hand. Two spheres of different sizes spun rapidly in his palm. The gray, mist-like sphere had already overpowered the other, sharply divided into black and white.
"If you aren't going to devour them, what do you plan to do?" Gakufis looked at the two rapidly spinning spheres as well.
The two spheres represented the world consciousnesses of two different worlds. One was still growing, while the other was still in its infancy.
"Let them do as they please." Sorvegliante closed his eyes. A little while later, he opened them again, a faint trace of amusement in his gaze. It was extremely subtle, but still quite remarkable.
"Their talents are truly... The first Mare in a hundred years appeared in this generation, too."
Sorvegliante said nothing. Instead, he released the two spheres from their restraints.
