Lin Ling had a happy family, loving parents, and a sweet, adorable little sister. His greatest wish was to get into Lancheng University, find a job he liked, and have his family stay together forever.
But when he was twenty, disaster struck his family. His parents and sister all vanished overnight.
From that day on, Lin Ling carried an enormous backpack and silently searched day after day for his family's whereabouts.
Everyone said there was an evil spirit hiding in his backpack. If he didn't get rid of it soon, it would gradually devour his flesh and soul, consuming him until he drew his last breath.
Only Lin Ling knew that inside the backpack was the only home he had left.
-
Wu Lan had lived in Lancheng for as long as he could remember. After hundreds of years, he had grown tired of the scenery and wanted to see other places.
Who knew that as soon as he left the mountains, Wu Lan would meet someone so interesting?
Rain poured from the sky, and the young man's raincoat was cheap and too small, barely keeping him covered. But after hesitating for just a moment, he resolutely took it off and carefully draped it over the backpack behind him, not caring that he was instantly soaked to the skin.
And inside that backpack he cherished like a treasure was a shrieking, frenzied evil spirit.
Watching him carefully wipe down the backpack, Wu Lan scoffed. He was pretty good-looking, but what a ridiculous idiot.
Perhaps because he was so bored, Wu Lan began following him, watching him search through the mud for traces of his family and risk his life fighting strange beasts to protect his backpack.
Until one night of torrential rain, Wu Lan, on an inexplicable impulse, intervened and saved the young man and his evil spirit.
At that moment, a raindrop fell into the still waters of an ancient lake.
-
At first, Wu Lan was disdainful. "A whole backpack of evil spirits isn't worth even one of my fingers."
Later, he edged closer to Lin Ling in secret. "If you and the backpack were both falling into the water..."
