The County Magistrate's Little Lucky Star

That year, the top three scorers in the palace examination were a refined and handsome top scholar, a tall and stern second-place scholar, and a humble, gentle third-place scholar.

Each was a rare talent, but the top scholar, Xie Youling, stood out above the rest.

Yet somehow, he offended someone, and the very next day the emperor sent him to serve as magistrate of the remote county of Yixing.

A little over a month later, Magistrate Xie received a letter from his mentor. It mentioned that his mentor's beloved daughter had come to Yixing to visit her great-grandmother, and asked him to kindly arrange a light, meaningful job for her at the county office...

Magistrate Xie rubbed his temples. Fine.

At the time, his adviser asked, "Miss Fang Ning's father is your mentor. Why not make the family connection even closer?"

"My wife doesn't need to be breathtakingly beautiful, but she should be understanding. She doesn't need to be rich and powerful, but she should be talented and learned." Xie Youling shook his head with a laugh.

How could he possibly want a spoiled, sheltered rich girl raised in a family of generations of privilege?

A few months later, his adviser looked at him sympathetically. "My lord, you're done for!"

You've fallen in love!

1. I'm terrible at writing blurbs, but I hope you'll give this a chance. It's a sweet, lighthearted love story with a little plot mixed in.

2. The heroine is a charming, catlike girl with courage, cunning, and a great sense of justice. The hero is a frail scholar-official with a hidden, dark side (there's a little twist to his character).

One is a magistrate who plays the fool while hiding his true abilities; the other is a charming young woman with a heart devoted to her country. From bickering enemies to falling for each other, they both end up completely smitten.

Theme: Passionate, sincere love, for each other and for their family and country.
