Synopsis
After a disastrous blind date, junior coder Qin Zhirou went home and worked overtime until midnight. Unfortunately, she suffered an acute heart attack. As she lay dying, her best friend asked if she had any unfinished wishes.
Summoning her last bit of strength, Qin Zhirou named two:
1. Burn three mu of good farmland for me. I'm never working again. I'll go down there and be a happy farmer.
2. Burn a man for me. No mama's boy, no miser, and no chauvinist. He should be strong and well-built, with eight-pack abs. If he's even one ab short, I'll come knock on your door in the middle of the night.
Qin Zhirou never found out if her best friend did as she asked, because she died, but also somehow didn't quite die.
But it seemed the heavens had heard her.
Qin Zhirou transmigrated into a farmer's daughter from some unknown dynasty, with three mu of good farmland as her dowry. Her new husband, Liang Ke, had thick brows, big eyes, and a powerful build. When he walked into the house shirtless, carrying a deer over his shoulder, she counted his abs and found not a single one lacking.
The only downside to this transmigration was that the original Qin was sickly from childhood, as thin and frail as a scrawny chicken on the verge of death. Her husband was illiterate and a genuine peasant, with no secret identity whatsoever.
Looking at her own stick-thin hands, Qin Zhirou wasn't worried. So what if she needed to put on weight? She couldn't lose it in her last life, so surely she could gain it back in this one! A husband was someone to share your life with. What did it matter if he couldn't read, as long as he treated his wife well?
So Qin Zhirou drank herbal medicine like coffee and happily wolfed down all the meat she'd denied herself in her last life, determined to grow into a chubby little thing.
While she was putting on weight, she quietly observed her taciturn husband, whom she hadn't even met before their wedding.
There was only one hard wooden bed in the house. In her previous life, Qin Zhirou had suffered enough from a herniated disc, and now she was so skinny that lying on the bed made her ache all over. She tossed and turned, unable to sleep. Without a word, Liang Ke asked someone to buy fresh cotton and made it into soft bedding. Then he crafted a thin deerskin lumbar cushion and slipped it under her waist in the middle of the night.
Qin Zhirou wanted meat, but her eyes were bigger than her stomach. She couldn't tear through the skin on a deer's leg, so Liang Ke took it from her without a word, carved off the meat, and put it in her bowl, keeping the bone for himself.
Her herbal medicine was too bitter. Qin Zhirou pinched her nose as she drank it, her face scrunched up like a chrysanthemum. Liang Ke walked more than ten miles of mountain roads to buy her half a jin of candied fruit.
Qin Zhirou tried to cook and burned down the kitchen. Liang Ke rushed her out and made sure she was unharmed, then rebuilt it in no time, making it more spacious than before.
A coder is a hopeless farmer. Qin Zhirou ruined all the seedlings, but Liang Ke only cared whether she had been bitten by leeches.
A goose in the yard accidentally ate a centipede and chased Qin Zhirou, trying to bite her. Liang Ke pulled her into his arms and shouted the crazed goose away. But Qin Zhirou forgot to be scared, lost in the wonderful feel of his abs...
At last, Qin Zhirou recovered and put on some weight. Liang Ke took her to the market, holding her hand tightly all the way despite the conservative, simple customs, and telling everyone they met, "This is my wife."
Qin Zhirou: Good heavens, this man is a keeper!
That night, when they got home, Qin Zhirou took the initiative, pulling Liang Ke in to put out the lamp and get down to business.
She thought she'd finally be living a happy, shamelessly indulgent country life.
Who knew she wouldn't be able to get out of bed the next day? Liang Ke even had to bring her meals.
Qin Zhirou glared at those eight abs. Eight is a bit much. I should help him put on some weight too. Six should be enough...
