Li Chi loved Pei Yan for seven years and was Pei Yan's lover for three.
Even when he saw Pei Yan bring home a different new flame, he would obediently and considerately leave them alone.
On his twenty-fourth birthday, Li Chi wanted to celebrate with Pei Yan for once.
Pei Yan could barely hide his disgust. "What makes you think you're so pure? Don't waste my time."
That was true. He'd already been used up by other people, and had no right to ask Pei Yan for anything.
Until one day, standing outside his home, he heard Pei Yan talking with a friend:
"You really fell for that sissy? Didn't you say you were just going to fool the idiot? How come you're living together now?"
"Heh, I'm just having fun. Someone who's already been passed around wants real love? He's disgusting."
"True. Weren't you the one who lined up those guys to take turns with him in the first place? You're something else, man."
Outside the door, Li Chi's face went ashen.
So the thing he'd been ashamed of for so long was something Pei Yan had planned from the start.
Pei Yan had never loved him.
How ridiculous.
The first thing Li Chi did after being reborn was stay away from Pei Yan.
Only after Li Chi left did Pei Yan realize how he felt. He tried to win him back, but the damage was done, and Li Chi would never forgive him.
Luckily, he was reborn. He hadn't yet done those horrible things to Li Chi, and there was still time to make things right.
Pei Yan treated Li Chi with everything he had. He loved Li Chi exactly as Li Chi had once loved him.
In the end, standing on the awards stage he treasured most, Pei Yan took Li Chi's hand, his heart full of joy. "Will you marry me?"
Unexpectedly, Li Chi pulled his hand away without a trace of reluctance. "Pei Yan, this is the end for us."
From that day on, Pei Yan became a laughingstock in the industry, just as Li Chi had been when Pei Yan dumped him.
That night, Pei Yan stood in the snow until morning.
Then he saw Li Chi accept a rose from another man.
So the harm he'd done could never be undone.
"Is this how you felt back then?" Pei Yan clutched the rose crushed beneath the snow, looking as though he might burst into tears at any moment. "It hurts so much, Li Chi. Can't you comfort me?"
But no matter how loudly he called, the Li Chi who had once kept him in his heart would never answer again.
