1. After her family's company went bankrupt, Ruan Nian was left guarding a warehouse full of liquor, worrying so much that her hair fell out by the day. Then she heard that she could clear her inventory by livestreaming on Star Orange, the hottest app around.
In her livestream, she met the top donor. He was extravagantly generous, buying up the entire warehouse of liquor. He had only one condition: she had to sleep beside him for a month.
Just sleep. With their clothes on.
2. Qi Cheng was born at the top of the world of wealth and power, proud and refined, with a coldness that warned everyone to keep their distance.
No one knew that this powerful man who could make or break fortunes suffered from severe insomnia. He could only keep going thanks to a bizarre dream: in it, there was always the blurry silhouette of a young woman. She looked obedient, but deep down she was coldhearted and reckless. She made him grit his teeth with anger, yet his heart trembled with love for her.
He thought she was just an illusion, until one day he unexpectedly saw the woman from his dreams in a livestream studio owned by his company.
3. Ruan Nian thought her relationship with Qi Cheng was nothing more than a transaction in which they each got what they wanted. She had become his nightly "sleeping pill."
When he couldn't sleep, she lay quietly beside him and listened to his rambling. When she came home late, he left a light on for her, even though she had no idea who he was.
She knew he had an arranged match with someone of equal status. He knew she couldn't forget her first love.
Until one day, Qi Cheng happened to hear Ruan Nian mention her first love. "I was only in love for one afternoon..."
Qi Cheng stopped in his tracks.
"He was my high school classmate. He went abroad after graduation. That day, I chased him to the airport and told him, 'I like you.' He hugged me, and then I secretly kissed him..."
At some point, Qi Cheng had come to stand in the doorway, the air around him so oppressive it was frightening.
When the hell did you ever say you liked me?
What you said back then was, "Sorry, I'm face-blind. I mistook you for someone else."
A blazing, dark tide surged in Qi Cheng's eyes. Each word sounded as if he were grinding it out through his throat:
"Say it again. Tell me you like me."
Ruan Nian parted her lips. He lowered his head, not letting her get out another complete syllable.
That night, neither of them mentioned the words "just sleep."
