The Years I Got Rich by Lying Flat in a Haunted House

Lin Shuye, who was unemployed as soon as he graduated, spotted a job notice on a battered, crooked utility pole.

The company was in an apartment block scheduled for demolition. It obviously wasn't a legitimate business!

A man with a refined but disreputable look slowly handed him a business card.

"We work night shifts year-round, but you can slack off and sleep most of the time. We pay by the day, so the more you sleep, the more you earn."

Lin Shuye was baffled. Hadn't he been promised that he could slack off and sleep at work?

On his first day, in a certain apartment building, he saw a faceless woman sitting by the door while he was half asleep. The next day, in a move that defied all reason, he found himself sprawled on the living room floor.

Gu Conglin arrived and pushed up his glasses. "The previous tenant died right where you're lying. This is a haunted house."

Sensing trouble, Lin Shuye looked at the wages he'd earned the day before and decided to shut up and think.

And so began his chaotic daily life of slacking off...

One day, Gu Conglin brought Lin Shuye to the front of the "Bureau of Mysterious Case Investigation."

Gu Conglin pointed to himself. "I'm Gu Conglin, captain of Investigation Team Two at the Bureau of Mysterious Case Investigation."

Lin Shuye thought that his boss, who looked so polished and refined yet disreputable, had even given himself a secret identity. He was more childish than Lin Shuye himself.

A faceless woman, an abandoned factory covered in eerie symbols, mysterious treasures unearthed from an unknown era, a finger bone from a hidden village, all kinds of bizarre coworkers, and unbelievable cases.

Lin Shuye always felt that the only reason he'd survived this long was... because he was sick in the head.

Whenever Lin Shuye's heart raced, he could see ghosts and strange apparitions, helping him find clues. But his boss wanted him to see ghosts more often. No way! Absolutely not! He was great at controlling his emotions.

Gu Conglin raised an eyebrow, pinned him against the wall, and caught him completely off guard with a forceful kiss.

Damn it, can you use health insurance for a heart attack?

Gu Conglin asked calmly, "What about now?"

Lin Shuye's eyes widened in shock, and he pointed behind him in terror. "B-boss, there's a ghost behind you."

Gu Conglin didn't let go. He held the back of Lin Shuye's head and leaned in. "Keep going."

Lin Shuye: "..." Then his damn boss pinned him down and kissed him relentlessly.

Only later did Lin Shuye discover that this man was obsessive and unstable. He'd covered the streets and alleys with job notices to find Lin Shuye, searching for ten years, while Lin Shuye had been walking step by step toward the ending the man had planned for him.

What Lin Shuye didn't know was that this man carried too many burdens, and Lin Shuye was his only salvation.

Gu Conglin: "You said you worked for financial freedom, so you could lie flat as soon as possible!"

"No." Lin Shuye smiled. "Now you have me."
