Both leads are reborn + mutual healing + mutual salvation + one-sided love
Preface: He was a canary his older brother kept in a gilded cage of decadence. When the forest caught fire, he was willing to perish in the flames.
[Patient, doting yet awkward top x outwardly aloof, inwardly obsessive bottom]
His name was Su Shun, given to him by his older brother, who wasn't related to him by blood.
His brother, Su Sheng, said, "Shun, may your life go smoothly."
His words proved prophetic, but their life ahead didn't go smoothly at all. Instead, it became even more difficult.
The neighbors all said Su Sheng was a fool, because only a fool would keep a burden like Su Shun around.
But Su Sheng said, "Shun is a gift from heaven. Only a fool wouldn't keep him."
From then on, Su Shun received the very best of Su Sheng's affection.
Su Shun thought Su Sheng was wrong. Shun didn't mean a smooth life; it meant obeying Su Sheng.
He could obediently kneel before Su Sheng got angry, obediently live out his life according to Su Sheng's plans, or even obediently trade himself for Su Sheng's future.
All he wanted was for Su Sheng to understand his feelings, to understand how deeply he had come to love him over countless nights spent relying on each other.
Su Shun was reborn, into the body of someone who wasn't called Su Shun.
This time, he resolved to put his brother back on the right path.
And not only that, he would tell Su Sheng the words of love he'd left unsaid in his previous life.
Su Sheng wouldn't be able to tell him that they could never be together again.
Little scenes:
1. At first, the reborn Su Shun didn't dare to make his desires too obvious. He knew Su Sheng was too stubborn. He knew Su Sheng couldn't understand how a man could love another man. He also knew Su Sheng had only ever loved him as a younger brother.
But strangely, when Su Shun gathered his courage and slipped into Su Sheng's bed, Su Sheng didn't kick him out as he'd expected.
Instead, he pulled Su Shun into his arms and said, "Don't let it happen again."
From then on, the desire in Su Shun's heart grew wildly. He didn't want to stop there.
So he pushed his luck and tried kissing Su Sheng on the cheek.
He watched Su Sheng's face turn red as he said, "Don't! Let! It! Happen! Again!"
Su Shun thought Su Sheng had a lot of these "don't let it happen again" moments.
He, Su Shun, was greedy by nature. He didn't care. Only an idiot would turn down a good opportunity.
2. Su Sheng always believed it was his fault, that his poor upbringing had led Su Shun to "overstep his bounds."
He kept his distance from Su Shun, stopped taking such meticulous care of him, and refused to indulge Su Shun's constant dependence and clinging.
The result was that Su Shun repaid him with blood-red silence, leaving him in a void.
Su Shun showed Su Sheng through his actions that being abandoned was worse than being dead.
After being reborn, Su Sheng constantly reminded himself that Su Shun was still a child.
Kissing him, hugging him, and carrying him around were no big deal. The kid was just clingy.
#Without an older top's doting, where would a younger bottom's obsession come from?#
Reading guide:
1. The top found the bottom. In both his previous and current lives, the protagonist has no blood or legal family ties to him. (Important to know.)
2. The story is mainly told from the bottom's perspective, with occasional scenes from the top's.
3. The bottom has a one-sided crush. The top is rather slow on the uptake at first and only loves him as a younger brother.
4. Older top, older top, older top. Seven-year age gap. (Important enough to say three times.)
5. Both leads are reborn, one-on-one romance, happy ending.
6. Some of the opening chapters interweave memories from their previous lives. Hopefully it won't be too confusing. (If anything is unclear, leave a comment and I'll answer all you lovely readers~)
Content warnings:
1. The bottom is a virgin. The top wasn't in his previous life (he had a wife), but is in this one.
2. The top has it really rough at first. He isn't a big shot from the start, but his devotion to his partner doesn't change.
Theme: Don't let your perspective be limited to the present. Beyond the dark night lies the dawn.
