Sister-in-Law, Please Be Gentle with Me

(I will definitely write this!!!)

Lu Changning's parents died young, and her elder brother was killed in battle. It was her widowed sister-in-law who raised her.

Her sister-in-law, Gu Wan, is just as her name suggests: gentle as water, virtuous and capable of managing a household. She makes new clothes for Lu Changning and pays for her private-school education. When Gu Wan looks at her, her gentle smile warms Lu Changning's heart like ripples across a lake. Lu Changning finds herself lost in thought as she gazes at her.

On a summer night filled with chirping cicadas, the sisters-in-law raise their cups beneath the grape trellis to celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival together.

Gu Wan can't hold her liquor. After a few cups, her cheeks flush, and she leans against Lu Changning's shoulder, gazing at her through drunken, misty eyes.

"My Ning'er has grown into such a beauty. You'll surely find the perfect husband one day."

Lu Changning says nothing. Her gaze grows deeper and deeper.

That night, she accidentally sees Gu Wan bathing. Beneath the moonlight, cool well water streams down her snow-white skin.

Along with the soft patter of water comes the thunder of Lu Changning's heart.

"Sister-in-law... you're so beautiful."

She tosses and turns, Gu Wan's beautiful face turning over and over in her mind. No matter how hard she tries to chase it away, she can't.

The next day, on her way home from school, she sees two ruffians harassing Gu Wan. She grabs a wood-chopping cleaver and rushes over, swinging it wildly until they flee.

Gu Wan, pale with fright, throws herself into her arms.

Those tear-bright almond eyes look up at her.

Lu Changning instinctively tightens her arms around that slender waist, her throat growing dry.

"Sister-in-law..."

Make it hurt, please.
