I Promise You This Life (Qi Gu Fanfiction)

Once, he had been peerlessly brilliant and ambitious, determined to claim the world. Yet he suffered such a devastating defeat at his hands, a defeat he accepted without regret, though he could not accept it. He had only lost the wife he loved most. She had ended everything so ruthlessly, using the most extreme means to tell him he was wrong. And with the smug superiority of a victor, he had told him his life was too worthless for him to bother killing him. He knew he had let him go on purpose, but his heart was already dead. Was even dying at his hands too much to hope for? Blood stained his blue robes. There was no turning things around.
