Every Man in the Capital Lives in Fear

As soon as the new emperor ascended the throne, he took many civil and military officials as consorts, then ordered that a consort-selection be held so he could choose an empress. This left many men trembling with fear.

The first person everyone thought of was the most handsome man in the capital, a chancellor renowned for both literary and military skill.

"I hear the new emperor is cruel by nature. Do you think our chancellor can withstand him?"

"How could one chancellor fail to withstand him? There are plenty of men in the harem, both civil and military officials. There are only so many days in a year, and the emperor might even have morning and evening sessions!"

Those words woke everyone up to the truth.

"Then every man in the capital is in danger!"

.

"Every man in the capital is in danger?"

Seated on the dragon throne, the new emperor rested his chin on his hand and listened to the rumors. He glanced up at the chancellor painting nearby, his expression unconcerned.

The chancellor did not stop painting as he portrayed his ruler. "I've cemented Your Majesty's image as a tyrant. Otherwise, how could we make the enemy crown prince lower his guard and become Your Majesty's prize?"

The new emperor smiled. "So it's not just the men in the capital who are in danger. It should be every man under heaven. After all, I love every handsome man, and I happen to like the enemy crown prince very much."

The chancellor's brush paused, and red ink bled across the painting.

The stain looked like a flower blooming beneath his brush on the pale chest, making the man in the painting look irresistibly alluring.

The new emperor lifted the chancellor's chin. "Chancellor, why can't you be like them and please me? Then I might even make you empress."
