"Is something wrong?" Shi He asked.
Yoshino Junpei's face flushed red. Looking terribly embarrassed, he managed to mumble out a thank-you.
Shi He had thought it strange for them to meet that night, but suddenly the feeling was gone. It was as though when one person in a pair acted weak, the other would somehow become assertive.
"You don't have to thank me, really. I didn't do anything."
Besides, I know you're being bullied, but look: if it doesn't happen right in front of me, I'll be just as indifferent as everyone else.
You should resent me.
"It's different. I know I'm... a coward, and I don't have the ability to change things. I thought I'd just keep drifting through life like this, but... but..."
Shi He saw his eyes turn red. Tears poured out like a dam had broken, but he stubbornly refused to blink. They became strings of precious pearls, each one falling distinctly. Shi He watched, entranced, and wanted to reach out to catch them. She rubbed her fingers together restlessly, but held back.
His words were suddenly cut off because Shi He reached out and covered his mouth.
He has so much water in him. So many tears, and his mouth is wet too. Even the palm of my hand has gotten sticky.
I'm really bad at writing blurbs.
Inspired by the movie The Wandering Earth.
Tentatively a short story. I'll see if you like it before deciding what comes next.
Content warning: The female lead isn't a ray-of-sunshine type; she has psychological issues.
Theme: The best revenge is to be beautiful; the most beautiful blossom is a counterattack.
Yay! It's Junpei's food!
