Synopsis
After working for two weeks straight, Chen Chen realized she'd forgotten her helmet when she set off on her electric scooter. According to Qiongdao City's regulations, anyone caught riding without a helmet had to wear a red "Safety First" armband and stand for half an hour.
The bad news was that she was caught as soon as she turned into an intersection. The good news was that the traffic cop was an old acquaintance.
She tried to cozy up to him and get a shorter sentence, but he refused outright. Chen Chen gritted her teeth in frustration.
Then the next day, she discovered her helmet had been stolen. There was an urgent matter at home, so she tried to sneak past the rule again, but failed and got caught once more. Just as she was feeling miserable,
the traffic cop, her old acquaintance whom she hadn't seen in years, hailed her a taxi and sent her home.
As she got into the car, he made a point of reminding her, "Remember to wear your helmet when you ride."
