*Marriage first, love later / explicit content / the male lead falls first
From the day she registered her marriage with Fu Qibai, Wen Yang knew their marriage was in name only and didn't count for much.
They each got what they needed, with no foundation of affection whatsoever.
When they occasionally ran into each other at the company, she was no different from anyone else, respectfully addressing him as President Fu.
Few people knew about their relationship in private.
-
One day after their wedding, they got together with some friends.
Fu Qibai left early, prompting his friends to gossip.
Someone in the know said they'd just heard him on the phone outside. It sounded like his wife had come home from a business trip.
"Wasn't this marriage arranged by Old Master Fu, with no feelings involved?"
"Who knows?"
When he got home,
Wen Yang was unpacking her suitcase in the bedroom. Catching a faint whiff of alcohol, she looked up and saw the man leaning against the doorway. She didn't know how long he'd been standing there.
She frowned slightly, her voice calm. "Did you go drinking?"
"No, Ji Shixing and the others were drinking." Fu Qibai explained slowly. "I remembered you don't like the smell of alcohol, so I didn't drink."
-
The first year of their marriage, around the time of the first snowfall.
At dusk, Wen Yang returned to their villa and watched a movie in the second-floor screening room.
A faint sound came from downstairs.
As if sensing something, she hurried to the stairs without even putting on her slippers.
The man who should have been across the ocean stood silently in the living room, his black coat dusted with sparkling snowflakes that had yet to melt.
Wen Yang asked, "Didn't you say you'd need another week to finish your work?"
Fu Qibai gave a slight nod, lifted his eyes to look at her, and spoke in a tired yet delighted voice. "I'll put work aside for now. I came back to celebrate your birthday with you."
