Ye Yunxiu found a gravely wounded young man who was on the verge of death. She originally planned to send him away once he had recovered, but when he got better, he didn't leave, and she didn't ask him to.
With no family, friends, or ties to hold her back, having someone around was a good thing.
He was cheerful and kind-hearted. Every day, they left home at the same time, then went their separate ways.
She went out to sell sweet soup. She didn't know what he did, only that the two of them worked hard and steadily, making their little ramshackle home better and better.
One day, they found themselves with some free time and agreed to go to a teahouse in town to listen to a storyteller.
The storyteller was recounting the tale of Lu Qiu, a great demon who wreaked havoc everywhere.
He was bloodthirsty, treacherous, cunning, and ruthless. Every sect in the immortal world wanted him dead, but he had escaped them again and again, his whereabouts a mystery.
Worst of all, he had slaughtered the entire Qi family, who had taken him in, leaving not one of the more than thirty people alive. The youngest child, the Qi family's little daughter, was only six. When she died, she was still clutching a little cloth doll.
The bitter tea made Ye Yunxiu stick out her tongue. She remarked offhandedly, "How could someone be so awful? Those poor victims!"
The young man beside her fed her a candied fruit, then put on a suitably sympathetic expression and echoed her. "Exactly, how could anyone be so awful? Those poor people."
But so what if they were pitiful?
Were there not enough pitiable people dying in this world already?
Lu Qiu swallowed his tea and thought that the storyteller kept repeating such a boring tale. The tea was awful, too. He might as well burn the whole teahouse down.
And if the storyteller was going to tell a boring story, fine, but why make things up?
The youngest child in the Qi family had clearly been a seven-year-old boy, and he hadn't been holding a doll when he died. Lu Qiu had cut off both his arms.
But then he lowered his eyes to look at Ye Yunxiu, who was beside him, engrossed in cracking sunflower seeds.
Never mind. Since she was here today, he would let the teahouse stand for now.
Reading guide:
* An oblivious, gentle girl x a notorious, universally despised demon lord
* The male lead had good reason for what he did in the blurb, but even with that reason taken into account, his character is... extremely handsome and dashing.
* Both leads are sexually inexperienced, one-on-one, happy ending, cute and sweet
