Synopsis:
Qi Yue nearly died in the Miao region, but luckily someone saved her.
Her rescuer was a Miao youth, a white jade bone flute at his waist and a clean, gentle smile on his face. He was both kind and strong, cared for her devotedly for seven days and seven nights, and held her hand all the way out of the poisonous miasma.
The boy was wonderful in every way, except for one thing: he was desperately insecure.
He had to hold her hand when they walked and rest his head against hers when they slept. He often stared at her in a daze. When they finally found a hot spring where she could bathe, he insisted on standing guard nearby, his gaze innocent. "Can't I stay here?"
A few flaws couldn't overshadow his virtues. Surely the two of them would keep getting along.
Until one night, Qi Yue woke from a midnight dream and saw the boy commanding a poisonous scorpion to bite out someone's eyes. The man on his knees was splattered with blood, too terrified to breathe, kowtowing and begging for mercy. The boy kicked him off a cliff, looking impatient. "Get lost. Stop bothering her."
The little black snake twined around his fingers obediently flicked its tongue. The boy listlessly wiped the blood from his fingertips. "Lick it clean. Don't let her smell it."
Qi Yue was shaken to her core.
How could there be so many good people in the world? There were far more traps. Take this boy, who seemed so pure and innocent, with a smile like the bright moon. In truth, he was a cruel and vicious Miao High Priest, obsessed with using living people to cultivate Gu.
Qi Yue ran away.
Not long afterward, she heard that the Miao High Priest had gone mad. He searched the world for people and killed them, leaving everyone in a state of panic and making life miserable wherever he went. Qi Yue congratulated herself on escaping in time and lay back in bed, sleeping soundly. Then, in the middle of the night, someone suddenly appeared at her bedside.
The silver bells on the boy's wrist jingled as he pinched her awake. His smile was gentle, but desire surged wildly in his eyes. "Want to get rid of me? Unless you kill me..."
