Shi Yi sees Jiang Jue again at a university club recruitment fair.
"Long time no see."
Shi Yi works up the courage to go over and greet him. She's prepared to be ignored, and could even accept being mocked in public. What she doesn't expect is Jiang Jue's utterly matter-of-fact reply.
"It has been a long time. Six hundred and fifty-three days, to be exact."
-
Shi Yi has always felt somewhat guilty toward Jiang Jue. So when he makes all kinds of unreasonable demands, she not only accepts them willingly, but feels it's only right that she should.
One text, and she's immediately at Jiang Jue's door.
One call, and she rushes to school to bring him clothes.
When Jiang Jue gets caught up in a false rumor because of her and asks her to pretend to be his girlfriend to clear up the misunderstanding, Shi Yi thinks that since she's the one who caused the trouble, he must have no other choice.
-
Until someone asks Shi Yi if her "overwhelming guilt" might all come from "having feelings for him alone."
Those words jolt her awake. After some thought, Shi Yi decides to make a bold move.
Pretending to run into him during a night jog?
Twisting her ankle and falling against him?
Intentionally picking up the same drink as him?
Jiang Jue really can't make sense of her tactics, which seem as if she's taken advanced classes in acting like a tea-drinking schemer.
"If you want to pursue me, why not just say so?"
"Am I that obvious?"
"I accept."
Now it's Shi Yi's turn to be bewildered. She hasn't even said anything yet.
So this isn't a deepening affection born of guilt at all. Someone's been in love for a long time.
