Who is the one who really gets eaten?

[ fork & cake ] The basic worldbuilding of the Cake and Fork setting:

There are three kinds of people in the world of Cake and Fork: Cakes, Forks, and ordinary people. Cakes and Forks are extremely rare. Cakes and Forks have a predator-and-prey relationship.

As they grow up, Forks gradually lose their sense of taste and smell. The physical impairment gradually leads to psychological defects. To Forks, Cakes are special beings who give off the aroma of food. Parts of their bodies are the only food that Forks can smell and taste. When a Fork, long oppressed by their condition and physical deficiencies, encounters a Cake, they may be unable to control themselves and attack, murder, and eat that Cake.

Before being attacked by a Fork, a Cake does not know that they give off a special aroma. Cakes cannot smell one another, either. Only Forks can smell each Cake's distinct scent. These scents are mostly related to food, and may smell of cake, cream, chocolate, vanilla, sweet wine, and so on.

A Fork's desire for a Cake is an uncontrollable appetite, a form of gluttony, a ravenous craving. Most Forks cannot control their behavior very well. After tasting a Cake's flesh and blood, a Fork may sink into even deeper emptiness.

A Cake can use their scent to make a Fork submit to them. A Cake can be prey, but also a trap for predators. They can be the serpent coiled in the Garden of Eden, tempting Eve to eat the forbidden fruit.
