A mutual-crush story, mainly set in school, third-person narration, mostly from the heroine's perspective
(BG story, but the secondary couples include GL and BL.)
No one looked forward to being seventeen more than seven-year-old Chen Qifan. Because she was so excited, she wrote a whole bunch of letters to her ten-years-older self:
"Hey, have all the major media outlets already reported that you're a genius painter?"
"Hey, are you rich now? Did you get Chen Lenghan into a big house? Chen Lenghan has it so hard, you know."
Actually, ten years wasn't that far away, but seven-year-old Chen Qifan didn't know that.
"Nope, you silly. I stopped painting ages ago."
Seventeen-year-old Chen Qifan read those letters over and over. She looked as if she might cry, but her eyes stayed dry.
Seven-year-old Chi Keqi didn't know Chen Qifan yet. But he often saw a girl in overalls painting in the park. She was barely taller than her easel, but sitting on that chair, she looked so impressive.
He only ever said two things to that little girl. "Hi, can you draw people? It's my dad's birthday the day after tomorrow. That man over there is my dad. Could you draw him for me?"
"I can try. It's 50 yuan per picture."
"Then I'll bring you the money tomorrow!"
But when he brought the 50 yuan to the park the next day, the girl wasn't there. In the corner by the slide, he found a wrapped-up sketch. He could tell the girl in overalls had drawn his dad for him.
No matter how many times he went back, though, he never saw the girl sitting on the bench and drawing again.
He never got to give her the 50 yuan, either.
