The wildly beautiful dream of summer eventually left only wakefulness behind, like the tail of a wave.
“I had a dream about him.”
Ever since Zhou Yi began treatment for insomnia on Monday, stories about Bian Yuan kept appearing in her dreams.
At first, she was thoroughly enjoying the show, but then the dream got stuck on the part where Bian Yuan killed himself, replaying it over and over.
Until one day, she discovered that the guy actually existed, and lived right next door...
He was that bass-playing kid with the flipped sleep schedule who made enough noise to drive anyone crazy, and looked so impossibly cool, arrogant, and untouchable.
Could she have been bound to some kind of Hero-Saving System?! Zhou Yi promptly decided to book an appointment with a psychiatrist.

Seriously, my own life is already a complete mess, and now I have to make time to save you, too?
But he's handsome.
All right, big sis is coming to comfort you, you little sad sack!

Two ordinary souls kept drawing closer through their repeated encounters, though pride kept them from admitting it.
Zhou Yi often thought back to those years: the waves, the stars, the music, and the boy named Bian Yuan pouring lemon soda into beer before kissing her.
She remembered how Bian Yuan seemed to be writing songs for her all the time. Sometimes she even dreamed of leaning against him as he hummed unfamiliar tunes in his clear voice. They partied beneath the blazing summer sun, played in the waves at sunset with a whole crowd of friends, then hugged amid their friends' catcalls.
They ran hand in hand through the pouring rain, teasing each other for looking like drowned rats, then lay on the rooftop's concrete floor to dry off and watch the stars...
After that argument, those beautiful bubbles burst and became nothing but illusions.
Zhou Yi chose to heed reality. Bian Yuan kept trying to change himself into someone she would like, but as longing grew ever more consuming and the crowds pressed in, the one he loved was nowhere to be found.
Until one day, he saw the person he had longed for and awaited, day and night, standing not far from him in the audience, swaying to the music and smiling at him. Before he knew it, Bian Yuan was smiling, too.
There is still a long road ahead.
“It's my turn to wave to you.”
