Life rarely goes as planned. By the time I was thirteen, I had learned that all too well.
I was the child Tanjiro's father found in the snow. These days, adults are so busy enjoying themselves that when they have a child they don't want to raise, they toss them into a ditch or the woods, serving up a human meal for the birds and beasts.
I was lucky enough to be found by kindhearted old man Kamado.
Tanjuro Kamado's wife was a kind woman, too. In an age when there wasn't enough food or warm clothing, her husband came home with another mouth to feed, picked up from who-knows-where. Without a word, she took me in and raised me like her own daughter, right beside her month-old son, Tanjiro.
There's a saying: repay a drop of kindness with a fountain of gratitude. So I thought, why not marry Tanjiro when we grew up and become a good woman like Mom?
