It Insists on Worshipping the Cat

The apocalypse arrived, bringing pollution and mutations everywhere. Humanity built several fortified bases. The moment this being was born, it nearly got humanely destroyed by a nuclear bomb.

Life is hard, so the evil god puts on a show for a living.

It changed its appearance from a giant monster tangled in countless tentacles, so dizzying and maddening to look at that it could drive people insane, into a cat, humanity's favorite creature. Then it shamelessly latched on to a civil servant.

After all, these days, having a government job beats everything.

Captain Xu was the base's ace. After returning from an assignment, he brought back a black cat and volunteered to enter the most heavily secured isolation chamber with it.

"There's something wrong with this cat."

"I may have been infected."

The pollution detector inside the isolation chamber read normal.

On the first day, Captain Xu treated his injuries while the black cat watched him, being very cat-like.

On the second day, Captain Xu practiced shooting while the black cat kept watching him, being very cat-like.

On the third day, Captain Xu exercised while the black cat sprawled on the floor and slept soundly.

On the thirteenth day, Commander Lin of the base opened the chamber door and shouted, "Xu Haixing, get out here! We're swamped, and you're in the isolation chamber on paid leave, petting a cat. Do you have no conscience?"

Captain Xu returned to his post reluctantly. Out of a sense of responsibility, he continued to take the black cat with him everywhere.

The cat let people pet it, cuddle it, and kiss it. It never cried, fussed, or wrecked the house, and it could even scout out ruins as part of the advance team!

Before long, all of Captain Xu's team members fell in love with his cat. After all, who doesn't love a cute and capable kitty?

During one expedition, bad information from the base led the exploration team straight into a tide of pollution. With their lives hanging in the balance, the cat leaped out, and a terrifying aura enveloped everyone and every mutated pollutant.

The eternal night descended. Pollution creatures stretched on without end like a tidal wave, then all exploded at once, like some kind of blood-soaked fireworks.

"This family really can't get by without me!"
