Lingering Joy

Qi Yuan, heir to the Duke of An’s household, was decisive, handsome, and elegant. He was a favorite before the emperor, with a limitless future ahead of him.

Everyone said he had no interest in women. Only Qi Yuan knew that he was far from indifferent to desire. In his dreams, he often lost himself in passionate pleasure with a woman.

One day, he met his widowed cousin. Qi Yuan’s eyes lingered on her.

When the young woman greeted him gracefully and lifted her head, he clearly saw the face of the woman from his dreams.

A year ago, Shen Ying visited her grandaunt at the duke’s estate, only to be set up and spend a night with the heir.

Their stations were worlds apart, and Shen Ying had no intention of becoming a concubine, so she left that very night.

She never expected to run into Qi Yuan a year later when he came to handle official business.

From then on, he became a frequent visitor to her home, showing not the slightest regard for her status as a widow. His gaze at her was deeply suggestive. “I hear you tell everyone that I’m dead, and that you have my posthumous child?”

Shen Ying was a little flustered.

Little scene:

It was a fine spring day, and servants bustled about outside the window.

The woman before the dressing table wore simple clothes that had slipped from her shoulders. The white silk flower in her hair trembled as she nervously asked the man behind her to close the window.

The usually composed heir had red-rimmed eyes. He glanced at the child sleeping soundly on the bed, then wrapped an arm around her slender waist and asked unhurriedly, “Are you still going to play the widow?”
