The Dandy's Daily Life

Blurb:

Seventeen-year-old Xie Zhixu is a spoiled young master, good for nothing apart from being pressed by his parents into passing the imperial examinations and becoming a jinshi.

He spends his days lazing around, cockfighting and riding horses, always living up to his reputation as a wastrel who lets his hobbies ruin him.

Until he is unwillingly sent away to serve as a local official from the start.

The boy who'd been content to eat, sleep, and wait for death begins dreaming night after night of the future's rows of skyscrapers, of metal cars zipping through bustling streets... He also dreams of a flourishing age when ordinary people live in peace and prosperity. Every sight fills him with longing.

He starts with a single county, with no people to help him and no money to spend, and trouble piled up everywhere.

Looking at the poor girls under his jurisdiction, dressed in rags and emaciated with hunger, Xie Zhixu finally realizes he can't keep slacking off. He steadies himself and thinks: Let's start by making sure everyone has enough to eat!

Theme: Break through life's constraints and uphold an indomitable spirit in the face of adversity.
