Are You Worthy of the Son of God?

Sometimes Yukimura wondered if it was too much to expect everyone to be "unrivaled."

The Rikkai tennis club he led was stronger than ever. Inoue, a reporter for Monthly Tennis, once remarked, "Every member of Rikkai has Tezuka-level skill."

His team members were talented and hardworking. Rikkai was called the King's Team because of the effort they put into training. They had won the national tournament twice. There was no reason they should have lost to Seigaku.

But they did lose, and so completely, so miserably. They were defeated, and he, the "Child of God," fell too, to the descendant of a samurai, a first-year student.

Yukimura could accept losing. What he couldn't accept was his resentment toward his own body. He had failed to uphold the glory passed down by his seniors, and the promise he made in his first year of middle school remained unfulfilled.

He didn't believe that leaving the hospital less than a month after surgery and forcing himself onto the court was an excuse. Before Echizen asked him, "Do you enjoy playing tennis?" he had kept that child reined in. But what about after that?

How could it be? How could he keep making mistake after mistake?

Child of God. Child of God. Child of God.

The title everyone had once envied had become a weapon used to mock him.

Seiichi Yukimura was good at reflecting on himself. Lying in his hospital bed, his thoughts wandered. He resented himself, then comforted and warned himself:

Seiichi Yukimura, you're twenty-five this year. Stop dwelling on the past.

But what could he think about if not tennis? His arm, the tennis he was so proud of, was something he would never be able to pick up again for the rest of his life.

At twenty-five, Seiichi Yukimura felt a sudden stab of pain in his heart. He closed his eyes in agony and never opened them again.

He passed away so quietly, without a sound.

He sighed softly.

Seiichi Yukimura, your form is terrible.
