To drive the Fatui out of Sumeru, Aether fought Shouki no Kami with everything he had. But when he regained consciousness, the Fatui Harbinger Scaramouche, who should have been fighting him to the death, was acting completely out of character. He was being extremely intimate with Aether and even claimed to be his lover.

"You should know by now, shouldn't you? We're lovers."
"There's no way I could become your wife. That's absurd!"
"Your wife? Not yet, true, but in my heart, you're no different from my wife..." Scaramouche noticed Aether's expression and awkwardly changed his tone. "Well, if you don't mind, I can be your wife instead. What matters is that you stay by my side and never leave me, all right?"
