[Complete. Safe to start reading.]
Lu Cha is a green tea leaf who has gained sentience. When he wakes up, he discovers that he has turned into a human. The towering buildings around him have become ancient-style houses, and a matchmaker who snatches people off the street has promised him to a hunter.
Years ago, a monk passed through the village and said that the hunter, Zhuo Changhao, was cursed with a fate that would bring calamity to everyone around him and kill the entire village. The only way to break the curse was to have him live in the mountains.
As a result, no one would marry the hunter. This time, he paid the matchmaker a hefty sum just to marry Lu Cha.
Lu Cha has barely adapted to life in ancient times when he finds himself with a husband. Afraid that people will discover his identity, he has no choice but to learn how to fit in with humans, hoping to become a real adult soon.
The little green tea is afraid the hunter will discover who he is, so every day he cuts off his own leaf tendrils and plants them in the fields as doppelgangers. That way, even if he's found out, he can run away.
When the hunter returns home from hunting, the little green tea stops him and asks him to go to the village to buy tea seedlings together.
But his doppelganger is the prettiest one, so the little green tea secretly comes up with an excuse to fob off the hunter.
The hunter isn't quite convinced, but he still gets up early and stays up late to fertilize and turn the soil for the tea seedlings.
These tea plants are unlike ordinary ones. Their leaves are large and fragrant, and they produce plenty of tea.
Seeing a business opportunity, the hunter decides to grow tea with his little husband and make a fortune. Their lives get better and better, and before long their tea shop is famous far and wide, raking in money hand over fist.
Traveling merchants stop by for a cup no matter how busy they are. Wealthy officials travel thousands of miles and spend a fortune just to taste their premium tea. Eventually, even the emperor comes to admire the tea garden.
Their shop is so popular that customers crowd through the doors, and they earn a fortune. Lu Cha generously shares the money with the hunter, asking only that the hunter let him drink a little more water every day.
The hunter has long since noticed that something is different about his little husband, but he has kept it to himself.
As spring approaches, Lu Cha reaches adulthood. He hears the adults in his family say that if he isn't pollinated, he'll wither. Crying as he looks at his little seed, which is almost wilting, he has no choice but to beg the hunter to help him bear fruit.
After one night, Lu Cha feels refreshed, and the fruit he has borne has grown considerably larger.
A little scene:
Lu Cha shows the hunter his tea garden, pointing to the lush green tea plants inside the fence.
"This one is my baby!"
"This one too!"
The hunter is a little jealous, but he doesn't want to say so.
He presses Lu Cha's little hand against his chest. "If they're all your babies, then what am I to you?"
Lu Cha thinks his husband has been teasing him ever since he came around. Every time, his face gets so hot he feels like he's turning into roasted tea.
He glances around to make sure no one's there, then whispers, "You're my baby too..."
The hunter is stunned, and wishes he could scoop out his own heart for Lu Cha to play with.
His husband is just too adorable when he acts coy.
Theme: Success comes from hard work and determination.
