In the river of time formed by an endless past and future, [Human Civilization] finally came under observation once more.
Seated upon the throne of [Nothingness], the [Observer] gazed at the small golden orb before it and furrowed its brow slightly. “So soon, you've reached your limit?” Then it reached out and pinched the void. An ancient bronze-colored key appeared between its fingertips, and with a flick of its hand, sank into the golden orb.
[Human Civilization]
“Ding-dong. A civilization meeting the criteria has been detected. Beginning large-scale deployment of [The Well of the Past].” A voice rang out in the minds of all humanity. People looked around in alarm, but when nothing else happened, they assumed it had been their imagination.
Jun Zhe woke at that very moment, and a voice sounded beside his ear. “Hello, Soul No. 01. Welcome to [The Well of the Past]. I am your [Soul Ferryman]. You may call me [Guide].”
The voice continued, “Your soul is severely damaged. For the sake of your mental and physical health, we will send you into [History]. The authenticity of these [Histories] cannot be verified, but there's no need to worry about that. You need only [restore] this [History] and find your [Soul Fragments].”
“And then?”
After a moment of silence, the clear voice of a young man echoed through the space. Jun Zhe had finally deigned to speak.
“Then...
Welcome to your [Journey into the Past]. We wish you a pleasant journey!”
A gentle and refined, like a breeze through the woods (at least on the surface), bottom, paired with a sweet-on-the-outside, dark-on-the-inside [Observer-in-Training] top.
[Reader's Guide]
(I hope you'll do me the honor of reading!)
1. The title, The Well of the Past, comes from Milan Kundera's understanding of modern European literature in Testaments Betrayed. Here, the idea is extended to mean that when a civilization is on the verge of collapse, consciously imitating the past (what came before, history, established facts) gives it the possibility of transcending it.
2. The bottom has split personalities, and the top is nonhuman.
3. The top is younger (at least on the surface).
