[Soldiers Sortie] Armor-Piercing

I've been sick lately, so I rewatched the TV series Soldiers Sortie. I really like Lao Qi, Gao Cheng. While watching, I thought how nice it would be if he always had someone by his side.

The heroine is the daughter of a military family. Her father and Gao Cheng's father served together, with one as the top commander and the other as his deputy.

Yan Yu was born into a military family and grew up under the care of her father and a group of uncles.

She's been competitive since childhood and always wants to come first in everything. She and the boy next door are constantly trying to outdo each other.

For all three years at military academy, Gao Cheng ranked first and she was always second.

When Gao Cheng became a platoon leader, she was his deputy.

When Gao Cheng became company commander of the Seventh Steel Company, she was his deputy.

"As long as I'm around, you'll always come in second," Gao Cheng said smugly.

"Yes, yes. I'll even be your deputy. Happy now?" Yan Yu said in the tone you'd use to placate a child.

This should be a short story, around fifty thousand words.
