Gu Ran gasps again, then angrily grabs the cat by the neck: “Then try turning into a person...”

As soon as the words leave her mouth, a handsome man in black is sprawled across the sofa, looking dazed, with her hand around his neck...

Gu Ran: “Ah... this...”

Momo: “I can't get involved in that.”

Gu Ran: “You can't do it openly, but what about secretly?”

Momo: “...Secretly is fine, just don't go too far.”

Bonus Scene 2

Hundred Flowers Manor

Gu Ran: “Momo, I've had you as a cat for ages. Now I need you as a person. Turn human this afternoon and be my dance partner.”

Momo: “How could I? I'm a dignified prince of the underworld. How can I preen and pose in front of people?”

But apparently, resisting wasn't worth a damn!

Then the two danced together, light as startled swans and nimble as swimming dragons. When the song ended, they had dazzled the entire crowd.

Bad news: Gu Xiaoyu choked to death on a preserved plum pit while reading a book.

Good news: She transmigrated into a book, got bound to a System, and has another chance at life.

Bad news: She transmigrated as the fussy female side character in the book, the female lead's sister-in-law. She makes a fuss about everything, has no education, no principles, and no scruples... She's nothing but a foil, born to make the female lead look good and get on her nerves.

He's a strapping, handsome man, but you couldn't get two words out of him with three blows. Everyone sees him as a good man and a sweetheart. He's incredibly patient, nicknamed the Ninja Turtle. His wife acts so outrageously, yet he can't bring himself to lay a finger on her, quietly bearing everything until he's finally forced to become a rampaging beast and cause a tragedy.

“Why did you make me transmigrate as a side character with a terrible ending?” Gu Xiaoyu demanded, clutching her four-month pregnant belly.

The System sounded aggrieved. “Your name is the same as the side character's, and you're familiar with the plot. The Universal Book-Transmigration Bureau matched you automatically.”

Gu Xiaoyu had no comeback. That was the only reason she'd clicked through to read the novel after seeing its blurb. Should she chop off the hand that clicked it?

“...Can I avoid dying?” Her eyes were full of the will to survive.

The System replied, “...Don't get ahead of yourself. We have to follow the plot. If you can avoid derailing it while raising the female lead's favorability, there might be a tiny chance of changing your fate...”

Fine, she still had years before she died. The cannon-fodder side character was uneducated and dimwitted, but her, Gu Xiaoyu, was different. If she was going to court death, she might as well come up with some new tricks. And when necessary, there was nothing wrong with getting on the female lead's good side.

As for dealing with the rampaging beast she'd driven mad?
