#Mutual pining, a playboy falls in love#

Chu Yinghuan is the only princess of the Ning Dynasty. Born to wealth and privilege, she has been doted on and cherished all her life, yet she cannot win the heart of Qin Ci, the imperial tutor.

Qin Ci is the youngest top scholar in Ning Dynasty history. As soon as he passes the imperial examination, he is entrusted with educating the crown prince, along with the young princess.

Everyone knows that Tutor Qin is blessed with a handsome face, enough to make even the precious princess fall for him. Chu Yinghuan has made her feelings known, both openly and subtly, and even set aside her princessly airs. Yet Qin Ci, a man of striking grace, merely smiles it off. All he ever talks about is the wisdom of sages and philosophers, along with etiquette and rank.

Later, when envoys from Rouran arrive in the capital to request a marriage alliance, Chu Yinghuan considers eloping with someone. Instead, she hears that Qin Ci has left the capital.

Heartbroken, she follows the envoys north for the marriage alliance. Sitting in her bridal chamber, Chu Yinghuan hears the sounds of battle outside all night. At dawn, the man who enters is not the famously burly King of Rouran, but Qin Ci, dressed in white and drenched in blood.

She watches the man she once begged for without success kneel before her and ask if she is willing to marry him. She only smiles, pressing a dagger to his throat, her eyes cool and clear.

"Qin Xinglian, did you take me for a plaything?"

Qin Ci lives up to his name. Despite his gentle, jade-like face, he has spent half his life doing as he pleases. The only person who ever got the better of him was that proud, willful little princess.

He meant it as a joke, but then he fell in love for real.

A beautiful tutor who's sweet on the outside and ruthless underneath x a proud, radiant little princess

Qin Ci x Chu Yinghuan

Reading notes:

1. There's a little groveling, but not much. He's holding back because he's afraid she'll really bury him.

2. The male lead really is a jerk. If you need to yell at someone, yell at him, not my girl or me.

3. The setting is entirely fictional, with no specific dynasty. Everything serves the romance.

4. The characters' values do not represent the author's.
