The Praying Miao Youth Is Being Hounded by a God

Bai Shu's mother was born in the remote Yuanda Stockade. Children born in the stockade receive the gods' blessings. Bai Shu's mother was carrying the baby in an abnormal position. Afraid the child wouldn't be born safely, she hurried back to Yuanda Stockade that very night. Yuanda Stockade was remote, and on the day Bai Shu's mother arrived, she went into labor and began hemorrhaging severely. With her life hanging by a thread, she followed the villagers' advice and prayed to the deity Yuanda Stockade had worshiped for generations At last, Bai Shu was born safely. A prayer required an offering. His mother-in-law said that Bai Shu had been born safely in exchange for being offered to the deity. He was the deity's sacrifice. * Bai Shu knew nothing about any of this. He grew up safely and got into university, but on the night of his twentieth birthday, he dreamed of a brilliantly colored venomous snake as tall as a person. After that night, many strange things began happening around him. The handsome student who was famous around campus, though Bai Shu had never heard of him before, casually touched his hand. The cool, smooth sensation felt like a cold snake flicking its tongue. At the basketball court, Bai Shu nearly got hit by a ball. The basketball club president grabbed him and pulled him clear, squeezing so tightly it felt as if he wanted to coil around him and suffocate him... At night, the dorm was quiet, and everyone was fast asleep. Only Bai Shu lay with his brow furrowed and sweat soaking him, trapped in a terrifying nightmare. All these strange events stopped when a new student from Miaojiang named Wu Jing transferred into his dorm. * During the winter break of his sophomore year, Bai Shu and the other students in his dorm went with Wu Jing to visit his hometown. After a long, exhausting journey, they went to sleep in the stockade without having time to look around. Thirsty, Bai Shu got up in the middle of the night. In the dim light, he saw the kind and kindly villagers from the daytime sewing a red wedding gown through the night. They said: "It has found its sacrifice again." Theme: Believe in science.
