[Genshin Impact] The Fatui Harbinger Refuses to Be Everyone’s Favorite

Coming soon: [Genshin Impact] Let Me Go Back to the Fortress of Meropide, Please! Come take a look! (Blurb at the very end!) Blurb: A new Genshin Impact update went live, and Wen Yin worked herself to the bone all night for the new character. She never expected that, along with her guaranteed five-star, she’d get five five-stars in a single ten-pull. The moment after happily choosing the character’s constellations, her vision went black. When she opened her eyes again, her soul had transmigrated to Teyvat, and she was now a citizen of Fontaine, ruled by the Hydro Archon. The good news: This was Teyvat more than five hundred years ago. The Traveler’s main story hadn’t begun, and countless tragic tales had yet to unfold. The bad news: Wen Yin had no Vision. She was just a slave at the opera house, and as soon as she arrived, she was ordered to sing for the noble guests. * A Vision of the utmost cold was born in the heart of a raging fire. From that day on, Fontaine’s largest slave opera house ceased to exist. The only one who survived was the Fatui’s newly appointed Harbinger, “The Singer.” With a human heart, she dared defy the Heavenly Principles. How would you describe “The Singer,” the Harbinger who appeared out of nowhere and took her place at the very center of Snezhnaya’s power? Other Fatui Harbingers: “Scaramouche” Scaramucci: Her? Hmph. She’s barely tolerable. What, you say I like her?! Ridiculous! “Tartaglia” Tartaglia: If I ever beat her, it’ll be the proudest moment of my life. Of course, working with her is a lot of fun, too! I’d be delighted to spend more time with her. A mysterious guest at Wangsheng Funeral Parlor in Liyue: Well, this famous Harbinger is actually quite pleasant, and her conduct is beyond reproach. I’d call her an old friend of mine. A certain drunken poet in Mondstadt: Her life would make a poem for the ages~ Of course, she’s also very generous when she treats me to drinks! A certain head of a commission in Inazuma: I can’t say much about her without her consent. But I can assure you that she’s trustworthy, no matter the circumstances. A certain scribe in Sumeru: There are too many mediocre fools in the world. I’m glad she isn’t one of them. Wen Yin herself: Thanks for asking. I’m just a diligent wage slave. Don’t bring me into this. Note: * The story is plot-focused, with no central couple, though there are characters who have feelings for one another. The romantic pairing is in the extra chapters. And now, The journey through Teyvat begins! -----Coming soon: [Genshin Impact] Let Me Go Back to the Fortress of Meropide, Please!----- I’ve lost my memory. I opened my eyes, and everything was unfamiliar. But the architecture was grand and beautiful, the judge was gorgeous, and the blue-haired young woman on the platform beside him was quite a sight, too. The atmosphere around me was lively, with a little bickering, but overall I’d give it a 9.9. Wait? A judge? The handsome judge, his expression solemn, lowered his gaze to look at me. As I stared back in confusion, he said in a deep voice: “According to the verdict issued by the Oratrice Mecanique d’Analyse Cardinale, Arsfania is guilty. She is sentenced to one hundred years in prison, to be served in the Fortress of Meropide.” I blinked, then turned to the guy beside me who looked like a lawyer and asked: Who’s Arsfania? He smiled at me innocently. You are. Oh, me. Huh? Wait, what? Me? I’m the unlucky soul sentenced to one hundred years, a life sentence in all but name? Please, Your Honor, I’m innocent! I don’t want to go to the Fortress of Meropide! * Sitting on my bunk in prison, I quickly scribbled into the diary that had just appeared out of nowhere: Year a, month b, day c. I’ve been imprisoned. The Fortress of Meropide feels great. The food is delicious, and it’s suitable even for sensitive skin (crossed out). Apparently, the schedule is regular, the meals are regular, and there’s all sorts of light labor to keep you fit. My bunkmate is a handsome gray-haired guy with dyed streaks, too. All in all, not bad. After I wrote the last line and once again thought to myself, “Who even keeps a diary?” The diary flipped its pages by itself with a rustle, revealing one that I’d never been able to turn to before. “Year x, month x, day x. Today I killed 1,734 people. A layer of black blood congealed on the scabbard. When I washed my blade by the sea, I turned the water black.” I compared the handwriting with what I’d just written, then snapped the diary shut two seconds later. Thanks. A life sentence sounds great. I’m not in the mood for the death penalty just yet. I forced a smile. Hello, officer! Could you tell me who I was before I lost my memory? (Crossed out.) Was I even human before?! * After countless hardworking and miserable days, I turned down my handsome bunkmate’s invitation to “build up the Fortress of Meropide together and promote the prison’s development.” I escaped instead. I ordered a delicious coffee at a café, hummed a little tune to celebrate my successful escape, and wrote “I’m free!” in the diary with a flourish. The diary flipped its pages by itself again. “Year xx, month xx, day xx. I took 30 billion Mora from Pantalone (bad dog!) (crossed out). He said I’d be done for when he found me. I told him, ‘Sorry, I already cleaned out your other vault, too.’ P.S. Attached is a portrait of the bad dog’s beautiful, evil, gorgeous face. Artist: Ta-da! Teyvat’s first witness, adventurer, and leader of the kittens and puppies, Arsfania!” I skipped over my pre-amnesia self’s bragging, admired Bad Dog Pan’s unparalleled good looks for two seconds, then compared them with the man who strolled over and sat down across from me. Under his warm smile, which radiated twelve parts coldness and ill intent, I quietly closed the diary again. Quick question: Is it too late for me to go back to the Fortress of Meropide? * I repent. I am guilty. Based on the “criminal record” in the diary, I hereby submit the following self-criticism. I shouldn’t have secretly touched Morax’s horns before losing my memory. I shouldn’t have pretended to fight the bird adeptus Xiao when I was really stealing his feathers. I shouldn’t have rolled the little qilin into a ball and sent it rolling through the flowers… (There are too many crimes to list. To be continued…) Theme: Keep reaching for the light, even in adversity
