All the original settings have been changed. The chapters are currently locked while being replaced.
I might write this eventually, but not until the novel I'm currently updating is finished at the very least...
The first thing Meng Zui did after opening his eyes was get chased for half a mile by the palace guards.
The second was realize he had been reborn, back at the point when he entered the mortal world to clean up a mess. A newly born poison demon had descended to undergo trials, but somehow lost its memories. Just as Meng Zui had finished his seclusion, a bunch of people who'd washed their hands of the matter kicked him down to deal with it.
This was really not a good assignment. The amnesiac poison demons got mixed up in all kinds of cases amid the myriad ways of mortal life, forcing Meng Zui to work with the Imperial Demon Control Bureau, the organization responsible for managing demons in the mortal realm. Before long, he became a master detective.
He also became good friends with Xi Chenhuai, the head of the bureau, who was then known as the Director.
Now everything was back at the beginning. At the thought of having to go through the same path as in his previous life, Meng Zui really didn't feel like doing it. He decided to head straight back. Whoever wanted the job could take it.
But before he could put that plan into action, he came face-to-face with Xi Chenhuai.
The Director wasn't at all bureaucratic. He was easygoing, yet extremely perceptive and upright. He was truly a rare friend. But Meng Zui couldn't help hesitating for a moment before greeting him.
He had the feeling Xi Chenhuai was looking at him strangely.
Still drowsy, Xi Chenhuai drew his arm in, only to find it empty.
He woke up instantly and opened his eyes. His wife, who had been right there in his arms, was gone.
He had returned to a hundred years earlier.
Before being reborn, he had gone to great lengths and resorted to every means to win Meng Zui over. They had been a loving couple for ten years. But after waking up one day, he found himself back in the time before he had even met his wife.
Tragic. Truly tragic.
Xi Chenhuai couldn't sit still.
He took action at once: he went to find his wife.
But why weren't his subordinates confused by this? Why were they all supporting and encouraging him, one after another?
The Imperial Guards of the Imperial Demon Control Bureau discovered that everyone had been reborn. They also saw that their boss woke up and immediately began looking everywhere for his wife, so they concluded that he had been reborn too.
This was good news!
Before being reborn, their boss had fallen in love with the poison demon Meng Zui at first sight. Unfortunately, he was hopeless at courting demons, and someone else had beaten him to it. No matter how hard their boss tried, he couldn't change Meng Zui's mind. All he could do was attend the wedding of the demon he loved, then wallow in misery as the newlyweds flaunted their affection in front of him.
They had been slow on the uptake back then. Most of them had never been married, and even those who were had wives chosen by their families. None of them had encountered a situation like this. But this time, they were determined to be their boss's best underlings: they'd create opportunities for him, hold off his romantic rivals, and bring back the Director's wife!
1. The shou, Meng Zui, is a demon who came into being after cultivating from the poisonous herb Zui Menglong.
All the poisons in this novel have been found through online searches.
2. The three parties were reborn from different worlds, so they have completely different scripts. The cases in this life won't be the same as those in their previous lives, so don't worry that the protagonists will solve cases as if they have cheat codes after being reborn.
3. The protagonist gong and shou only have feelings for each other. There will also be no characters in the story who relentlessly pursue either of them. Because of the feelings he brought with him from before being reborn, the gong may seem a little love-struck.
4. Unless something unexpected happens, there should be no side couples, only the gong's deputy, who also acts as his wingman.
Theme: Not everything needs to be bright and clear, but keep a kind heart
