[Fantasy Serial: My Arch-Enemy Became My Sword Spirit]
A hilarious heroine who's lazy but secretly formidable x a gentle hero on the brink of falling to darkness
Yu Shengsheng died. To stay alive, she was bound to a redemption novel as the vicious female supporting character. All she had to do was follow the predetermined plot to the end, and then she could retire in triumph.
In the book, she was Lu Wang's dark moonlight, tormenting him until his spiritual roots were ruined and ultimately driving him to become a demon. She was there to lay the groundwork for the later heroine to redeem the gloomy, terrifying hero, who was practically a great villain, and to serve as his foil.
[Finish the early plot, then stab him at the end and send him into demonic cultivation. You'll be able to go home!]
That was what the System said.
So she diligently played the vicious role, even though it didn't quite suit her lazy nature.
Fortunately, the task wasn't difficult. She only had to say the set lines provided by the System at the right plot points.
For example:
In the morning, she completed her task by saying, "A good-for-nothing like you thinks you're fit to become the Sect Master's disciple?"
That afternoon, she needed the hero's help: Junior Brother, help me out QAQ
Lu Wang: "But didn't Senior Sister call me a good-for-nothing this morning?"
Yu Shengsheng, awkwardly: "Haha, what I said in the morning doesn't count in the afternoon."
And another example:
"Are you blind? This is my cultivation manual! A good-for-nothing like you thinks you can practice it?"
After delivering her line, Yu Shengsheng hurriedly shoved the manual into the hero's hands. "Quick! Don't let me see... it again. Books make me dizzy!"
Lu Wang: ...
As the mission slowly neared its end, she discovered that, besides delivering her lines as planned, she was somehow a master of talismans, medicine, swordplay, alchemy... She was good at everything! The greater her abilities, the more satisfying it was to slack off.
Yu Shengsheng thought that being a vicious supporting character wasn't all that hard after all!
Though she had no idea how she, who was supposed to be universally despised, had become the center of everyone's attention.
System: ...Are you sure you're not out of character?
-
The final battle arrived in the blink of an eye. Beneath a blood-red sky, Yu Shengsheng looked at the hero before her and hesitantly raised her sword.
There was no hatred in the young man's eyes. A faint smile touched his lips. His long hair was tied up, strands fluttering in the wind, while the blazing fire behind him illuminated him like a mixture of the bewitching and the pure.
He held his palm up and beckoned to her gently.
"Yu Shengsheng."
"If you don't stab me now, you won't be able to go home."
-
What Yu Shengsheng didn't know was that while she was desperate to finish her mission and return home, someone else was willing to sacrifice himself to help her get there.
And he succeeded.

[Reading Guide]
^ The hero may go mad, but he isn't the purely gloomy, lovesick type.
^ The heroine isn't simply a lie-flat couch potato. There's a reason for that.
^ The original heroine will not be vilified.
^ 1v1 romance, a little ensemble cast, not a wish-fulfillment story. Flashback warning. Lots of foreshadowing. If something hasn't been explained, it's not a plot hole, it's important foreshadowing! Discussion welcome ovo

--Serial My Arch-Enemy Became My Sword Spirit: Blurb--
Shi Yu was an orphan adopted by Wanzong Mountain. Though her spiritual roots were incomplete, she had always dreamed of becoming a sword cultivator.
But she had only a wooden sword.
Everyone laughed at her for wanting to become a sword cultivator without having her own sword spirit.
Until one day, her wooden sword moved.
Her sword spirit had a lovely voice and was incredibly capable, but he was hard to track down and had a bad temper. He was also very reluctant to call her Master. Fortunately, she was patient enough to teach her sword spirit to call her Master every day.
Wanzong Mountain had a famous swordsmanship prodigy. Shi Yu hated him, and had even argued with him for eight hundred rounds anonymously on the Four Directions Treasure Mirror. But he was the Sect Master's personal disciple, and she couldn't beat him, so whenever she saw him in private, she always kept her distance.
Then, at the grand gathering held once every three years, the swordsmanship prodigy was punished by being assigned menial work. Shi Yu, who was in charge of preparing the banquet, was forced to work alongside him. She seized the chance to put on airs and order him around.
To her surprise, he readily replied, "Understood, Master."
Shi Yu and everyone else: ?
-
As a swordsmanship prodigy, Tang Xiyan was proud and never took anyone seriously. As a result, he was hunted down and nearly lost his life. With nowhere else to turn, he hid inside a broken wooden sword and was accidentally mistaken for a sword spirit.
The girl who found him was a good-for-nothing with no spiritual roots, and every day she hugged the sword and demanded that he call her Master.
Tang Xiyan: How could the greatest genius of the Sword Sect possibly become the sword spirit of a little girl who hasn't even awakened her intelligence? What a joke--
Shi Yu: Good sword spirit, are you there?
Tang Xiyan: ...I'm here.
-
Tang Xiyan could have simply left and stopped pretending to be a sword spirit. But time and again, he hid in the wooden sword, met her delighted gaze, and silently told himself that next time he definitely wouldn't come back.
But later, when Shi Yu wanted to back down in the face of those who bullied her, Tang Xiyan told her to raise the wooden sword in her hand.
"Shi Zhaozhao."
"Draw your sword."
"The number-one sword cultivator's master can't be a good-for-nothing."
