Tangerine

Unrequited love becomes mutual / The ex-husband chases his wife after it's too late

After Mu Hexian's boyfriend cheats on her, she is utterly heartbroken. That's when she happens to meet Tang Jingchi.

A proud young master, lofty and adored by everyone, he captivates Mu Hexian with every gesture.

At Linyu University, rumors abound. Tang Jingchi, the celebrated heartthrob everyone talks about over meals and tea, has been through one girlfriend after another. Wild and unrestrained, he drifts through a crowd of beauties without ever letting one touch his heart. No one can hold on to him.

One day at a karaoke bar, quiet Mu Hexian ends up at the center of attention despite sitting in a corner.

Everyone has heard a few rumors about their ambiguous relationship, so they start egging them on, eager for some gossip.

Some even urge Tang Jingchi to confess his feelings.

Slightly tipsy, Tang Jingchi looks thoroughly uninterested. His smile never reaches his eyes as he dismisses the idea. "Why would you think someone who's been pursued since childhood would make the first move and confess?"

After that, Mu Hexian steels herself and stops indulging in unrealistic fantasies about him.

When they meet again, Tang Jingchi keeps appearing by her side, intentionally or otherwise.

Still smarting over what he said back then, Mu Hexian deliberately keeps her distance.

Until her ex-boyfriend shows up.

One night, Tang Jingchi, usually so impeccably dressed, blocks the entrance to her home, reeking of alcohol. His right hand curls into a fist against the door, the veins on its back standing out.

He holds himself back, his voice restrained. "Mu Hexian, am I just a substitute for someone else?"

After a while, Mu Hexian hears him, head bowed and dejected, finally give in. "Then... can you let me be your substitute for the rest of your life?"
