After leaving the Metropolitan Police Department, Morofushi Takaaki realized he had transmigrated.
He was wearing his junior high uniform, and his younger brother had just started elementary school.
None of the tragedies had begun yet. There was still room to change things.
And he was still holding the phone with a hole in it, stained with blood.
He was the only one who could see its startup screen, and the only one who could see the calico cat dozing every day in one of the preinstalled apps.
Morofushi Takaaki glanced at Hiromitsu, who was fast asleep with an Ultraman card in his arms.
Oh. The culprit was asleep.

■ At 13, Morofushi Takaaki prevented the tragedy that would have left him without his parents, saved Uesugi Yuri, and persuaded his parents to move from Nagano to Tokyo. There, his younger brother met his childhood friend, Furuya Rei.
On the phone, the calico cat and the nine-tailed fox tentatively clasped each other's fluffy paws.
■ At 22, after graduating from the University of Tokyo's Faculty of Law, Morofushi Takaaki passed the senior-officer civil service exam with ease, joined the National Police Agency, and became a member of the Gold Watch Group. He was then transferred back to work at Nagano Prefectural Police Headquarters.
In secret, he was recruited into the Security Bureau of the National Police Agency as an intelligence analysis specialist, taking one step closer to the organization that had once killed his younger brother.
■ At 28, Inspector Morofushi learned from his younger brother Hiromitsu that he planned to attend the police academy after graduating from university.
Four months later, a report on Public Security's investigation into recruiting new officers as undercover agents landed on Takaaki's desk. His own reckless younger brother and his childhood friend were both on the list.
Fate had, in the end, taken a similar course.
The calico and the fox on the phone stumbled along, yet kept moving resolutely through the darkness.
Morofushi Takaaki respected his younger brother's choices and those of his friends. But as an older brother, he could hardly remain unmoved as his brother approached death.
He had been plotting for years to prevent that.
Morofushi Takaaki could be the brother his younger sibling trusted and relied on unconditionally, the police force's "rising star" who saved its reputation, and the NOCs' strongest support, the "Kongming" who served as Public Security's command center.
■ At 32, Hiromitsu lived past the day he was supposed to die.
The calico cat in the game wandered beneath the sunlight, then gradually disappeared from the screen.
The broken phone had completed its mission.
■ At 35, Morofushi Takaaki, promoted to superintendent, was transferred back to the National Police Agency to direct the final assault on the Black Organization.
■ Everything finally settled.

*Takaaki, raising his little brother both online and offline!
*Many original details, so I don't recommend scrutinizing it for accuracy.
*Primarily focused on brotherly affection, with possible Takaaki x Hiromitsu and a little Rei x Hiromitsu.
*Takaaki is hard to write, so I may not get around to it. For now, I'll post the timeline I've worked out.
