The two met when they were fifteen. Ci Mu Chao was the school bully at No. 1 High School, and although his family was rich and powerful, he wasn't happy. His mother died when he was seven, and his father married someone else that same year. Nian Erwan lost both her parents and went to live with her aunt, becoming her aunt's stepdaughter in name only. This upset her uncle, who often abused her aunt. Nian Erwan realized that the two of them were putting on an act to drive her away. She went to live with her maternal uncle's family, who treated her wonderfully and doted on her, never letting her do any chores. This created a distance between Nian Erwan and them, but they slowly worked it out.
