In the first month of Tianbao's fifteenth year, An Lushan ordered his son An Qingxu to lead his troops to attack Tongguan, but he was repulsed by Ge Shuhan. The main force of the An army was blocked at Tongguan for several months and could not advance westward. An Lushan saw that a strong attack was not possible, so he ordered Cui Qianyou to station the old, weak, sick and disabled soldiers in Shaanxi County.
Dongfang Qing escaped in embarrassment with the old, weak, sick and disabled soldiers, and ran into a small group of Ye family troops led by Ye Qingniang for several miles.
The young master of the Ye family was attacked after returning south to collect supplies. Ye Qingniang went to support her, but unexpectedly, she was tricked into fleeing the mountain, and the Ye family's army suffered heavy losses.
The Langya Army marched again. Seeing the crisis, Ye Qingniang led a small group of Ye Family troops to lure the enemy troops deep into the mountains and forests. Dongfang Qingdai's wounded soldiers left first to join the Second Young Master and escorted the supplies to the Tang Army in Tongguan overnight.
