Officer Takagi Is Always Complaining

After the Organization was destroyed, Officer Takagi continued solving cases in Beika Town amid the peace of everyday life. Then, one day, he suddenly started to feel that something was off.

Conan had already turned back into Shinichi Kudo, so could someone please tell him who this little boy saying “Aha!” and acting cute at the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department was?

Even more shocking, the police agency director Furuya had already resumed his real identity, yet he was still working at Café Poirot. His highly respected senior Date was alive, too. The police department's mixers were always attended by the two stars of the explosives squad, and the two people Sato had told him had died in the line of duty long ago.

Isn't this actually pretty great?

...If only he hadn't noticed that everyone here was occasionally a little strange.

For example:

Some detective he'd never met suddenly started lecturing Conan after a case was over. Wataru Takagi slowly typed out a question mark.

Wataru Takagi: Excuse me, are you a police officer too?

The other person: No.

Wataru Takagi: Then are you a teacher?

The other person: No.

Wataru Takagi: A relative of Conan's?

The other person: ...?

Takagi: Then why are you sticking your nose in? The Tokyo police have watched this kid grow up.

There were always strange people hanging around Conan, and whenever Conan got spooked, he would simply launch into the whole package: eavesdropping and following them.

Wataru Takagi: ...? I know these people are suspicious, but Conan, don't you have the personal contact information of all of us officers?! Why do you only use it when reporting a crime?

Conan, thinking to himself: I suspect that person is...

Wataru Takagi: You have Director Furuya's contact info too, don't you?!

After this happened enough times...

In an interrogation room, Takagi and Sato were taking notes:

Takagi: Why did you commit the crime?

A member of the distillery with a code name: To save someone. Do you know about the five from the police academy? The person who was my moonlight...

Wataru Takagi, expressionless: Oh, got it. You're the culprit who kept Director Morofushi and Director Furuya from recognizing each other, right? Public Security will be here to take you away any minute now.

Miwako Sato: ???

Three forum posts:

[The xx three-way guessing game is on. Could Officer Takagi be a member of the distillery?]

He's definitely a cop, and a bona fide Red, thank you very much.

[Guys, no, Takagi's backstory just came out, and he has a romance arc with Sato, so there's no way he's a member of the distillery.]

Senior Sato, meeting her means I must have saved the galaxy in a past life!

[LOL, Officer Takagi really is incredible. His instructor was Wataru Date, he knows Scotch and Bourbon's identities, and he knows so much other stuff. It looks like he knows Conan is Shinichi, too. I get it now, his secret identity must be Public Security!]

I'm with the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department. I don't know those people at the National Police Agency! I don't!

Reading guide:

CP: Miwako Sato, unwavering 1v1.

Primarily told from Wataru Takagi's perspective.

The blurb is mostly a bait-and-switch; the main story takes precedence.

Any OOC characterization is my fault. If you insult the original characters or use fanon headcanons to attack them, don't be surprised if I delete your comment. If it feels like this story is attacking a novel you love, that may not be your imagination. For your own happiness, I suggest clicking the X in the top right.

...This is a trope-stacked, unconventional wish-fulfillment story. The wish-fulfillment just isn't aimed at a very mainstream audience, so there's no need to doubt your taste over it.

Theme: Even a background character can have an extraordinary life.
