A Golden House for Her

Xi Tang's life was the perfect example of a woman blessed by fate.

Her parents were devoted to each other, and even their bickering sounded like flirting. Her studies went smoothly, and she was admitted to university without an entrance exam. After graduating, she went straight to the most laid-back department at the Fu Group. In three years on the job, she had never worked overtime. And her childhood sweetheart of a husband spoiled her rotten.

Fu Huaixu, the head of the Fu family and a powerful figure in the business world, cooked and bathed her himself when he came home. She had but to ask for the stars, and he would give them to her, though he had one rule: “Tangtang, you can go anywhere you like, except the basement.”

Everyone said Xi Tang must have saved the galaxy in her previous life. She thought so too.

She had enjoyed twenty-five years of smooth sailing. Then, on her birthday, she accidentally pushed open that rusted iron door.

On the other side was not the dark, rotting basement her husband had described.

It was dazzling sunlight, bustling streets, and the real world.

When she turned around, she realized that the home where she had lived for twenty-five years was nothing more than a carefully decorated basement. Her parents were actors, her friends were fake, and her “husband” was now standing behind a bank of surveillance monitors, silently watching her panicked face.

Xi Tang ran.

She rushed through the iron door and stumbled into the downpour of the real world. Behind her, Fu Huaixu's voice followed at an unhurried pace: “Tangtang, the rain is too heavy. You'll catch a chill.”

“Be good and come back to your husband.”

“The world out there is too chaotic. Just close the door and stay my Tangtang forever.”
