Lu Jiu dreamed that he was merely a disposable character in a book, whose sole purpose was to take a bullet for the protagonist, his childhood friend. After he died, the protagonist would bury the hatchet with Gu Chenbai, the big shot in the book, and the two of them would live happily ever after.
Lu Jiu had always been a little slow to catch on, so at first he didn’t take the dream seriously. It wasn’t until the protagonist met Gu Chenbai in exactly the same scene as in his dream that he panicked.
He couldn’t interfere with his friend’s happiness, so all he could do was keep explaining to him how boys should protect themselves when they were out and about.
The first time, he ran into Gu Chenbai by chance. Gu Chenbai was the person he’d feared most since childhood. He meant to warn him out of kindness, but the words came out all wrong: “Y-you have to protect me well!”
Lu Jiu: !!!
Gu Chenbai narrowed his eyes slightly. Before he could say anything, Lu Jiu darted off like a startled rabbit.
The second time, the protagonist went to Gu Chenbai of his own accord because of a loan shark, but Gu Chenbai’s gaze never left the window, where Lu Jiu was nervously keeping watch.
The third time, Lu Jiu gave his umbrella to the protagonist and amused himself by stomping in puddles in the rain. Gu Chenbai lifted him bodily into his car. Just as Lu Jiu began trembling with fear,
Gu Chenbai’s smile faded, and he said seriously, “Weren’t you the one who told me to protect you well?”
Lu Jiu froze, his paw hanging in midair, his eyelashes quivering with nerves. He thought Gu Chenbai had changed. Now, before killing someone, he even told them a joke.
Later, Lu Jiu finally couldn’t take the pressure any longer and went to a bar to drink himself senseless. Gu Chenbai dragged him out, his face dark with anger.
In utter misery, Lu Jiu let the alcohol loosen his tongue and foolishly blurted out the whole truth.
Suppressing a laugh, Gu Chenbai coaxed him softly, “Jiujiu, I have an idea. If you and I got together, wouldn’t you stop worrying about having to take a bullet?”
Lu Jiu’s brain short-circuited for a moment. He nodded blearily. It did sound like that made sense!
Then, the next morning, Lu Jiu climbed out of a huge bed in some hotel, completely bewildered. While the culprit was still in the shower, he scrambled away again.
Three months later, Lu Jiu ran into Gu Chenbai, who had been waiting for him, in the obstetrics and gynecology department.
The culprit smiled tenderly. “If you don’t come find me soon, Jiujiu, I’ll have to come find you myself.”
Only then did Lu Jiu remember that Gu Chenbai had risen from being a useless servant in the protagonist’s household to his current position by relying on anything but a kind heart!
A fatherly boyfriend top, a silly bottom.
