Burning Ears

"You're not worthy of anyone's love!"

That was what Ye Lizhi hated hearing most.

If she wasn't worthy, then who was?

So even as a girl, she already knew how to make boys fall madly in love with her.

Of course, the rose never gave her heart away.

Fall for her, and you're doomed!

In her second year of high school, a boy transferred into her class. He had cool, clear features, an outstanding presence, and the air of an immortal. Ye Lizhi immediately felt like messing with him.

In a damp rented room during the rainy season, Ye Lizhi asked Pei An, "Can someone like me be worthy of love?"

Unable to hold back his feelings, Pei An kissed her tenderly. "I love you."

Later, Ye Lizhi left without a word, holding up her skirt as she went.

When they met again, Pei An had become a well-known painter in the industry.

After spending a night together, Ye Lizhi saw a huge oil painting in Pei An's home. The woman in the painting wore a red dress that left much of her back bare.

Ye Lizhi asked deliberately, "What is this painting of?"

Pei An's voice was icy. "Trash."

Ye Lizhi smiled instead of getting angry. "If I'm trash, then what are you?"

Pei An replied, "A beggar."

A beggar begging for trash's affection.

Ye Lizhi found a yellowed book of poetry. On the title page, Pei An had written: I mustn't fall for her. She'll never take responsibility for my love.

The date beside it was eight years ago.

And on that very day, Ye Lizhi had kissed the curve of Pei An's ear.

A girl kissed the boy's ear, and he remembered that burning moment for the rest of his life.
