------------- The following is the new blurb -----------
Shen Li transmigrates into a book as an utterly ordinary young female physician at the Imperial Medical Office.
Before her stands the tyrant from the original novel, cold and heartless, bloodthirsty and ruthless, the kind of man who takes lives at the slightest provocation.
She looks up at the heavens, speechless and on the verge of tears.
Staying alive is so hard...
Keeping the tyrant calm is her top priority, so Shen Li goes about each day in fear and trepidation, as if walking on thin ice. She quells his anger, restrains his murderous urges, and treats his old injuries. In doing so, she also discovers that there is more to his brutality than meets the eye.
But she can't take another day of living on borrowed time beside the tyrant. She has to run!
With the cold, imposing palace walls behind her, Shen Li looks back and sighs.
Though she will miss him, it's better if they never meet again.
Song Mian's life has been bitter. His mother was cruelly killed, he had no one to protect him, his brothers shunned him, and he suffered humiliation and abuse throughout his childhood.
That's why he's ruthless, toward others and even more so toward himself.
In this palace, where people devour one another without a trace,
Song Mian avenges himself with that ruthless streak and rises to a position where no one can ever humiliate him again.
He answers killing with killing. In the eyes of the world, he's a madman, a tyrant denounced by every official.
Song Mian never cared, until Shen Li appeared and changed everything.
At first, he assumes she's just another pawn sent to his side, either to take his life or for some other purpose.
He watches Shen Li put on a clumsy show of obedience before him, saying things she doesn't mean. Song Mian thinks that when the day comes for her to make her move, he'll grant her a quick death.
As the days pass, Song Mian realizes he was wrong.
Shen Li is so good to him, openly and passionately. She's the only one who cares about his feelings, and the only one who speaks up for him.
So does she actually have feelings for him?
When news arrives that Shen Li has faked her death and fled, Song Mian laughs in anger.
At a ruined temple outside the capital, he corners her against the wall, gripping her chin hard between his fingertips and leaving a red mark on her delicate skin.
Suppressing his fury, he says, "Shen Li, you dared to deceive me?"
Shen Li: ?
Wait, what did she even deceive him about?
