Feng Qi transmigrated into a phoenix egg. Afraid the Phoenix Clan would discover that he had merged with the egg's soul and kill him after taking the egg's inheritance, he made a run for it without hesitation.
But conflicts between the many races had always existed in this interstellar age. With his third-rate skills, he'd end up as egg fried rice sooner or later, so he had to find someone powerful to rely on.
He used the memories passed down in the inheritance to pinpoint his future mate.
The good news: His future mate belonged to a powerful race.
The bad news: They were quite far away, so getting there would be difficult.
Though it wouldn't be easy, he still made his way to the Sea of Trees, which no other races were willing to enter, all for the sake of staying alive.
That's right, his fated mate was a tree.
Who says a phoenix's fated mate has to be a dragon? It could be a tree, too.
The Tree King watched as a chubby little phoenix walked into the Sea of Trees, then pointed a pudgy little finger at a young parasol tree and ordered, "I've got my eye on you. You're going to raise me."
He nearly burst out laughing. This phoenix chick was something else, already trying to scam people at such a young age. Then his young parasol tree, who had never taken human form, suddenly transformed with a bang.
Just as the Tree King was getting excited, he heard his parasol tree, who was a little taller than the chubby chick, reply with embarrassing bravado, "I'm not raising you! Get lost!"
He immediately stepped in to subdue him. A fated mate was hard to come by, so even if the phoenix chick was difficult to raise, he still had to do it!
Question: How can treefolk who live on air raise a phoenix chick?
Answer: Cut off their arms and legs and trade them for phoenix fruit. That's what they get for being a poor treefolk race.
To keep up with their increasingly difficult-to-raise phoenix chick, the treefolk had no choice but to sell their labor cheaply, serving as sparring partners for the various races. Then, during a military tournament, the Phoenix Emperor unexpectedly went berserk, awakening the bloodline power within the chick.
A round, chubby phoenix chick was exposed for all to see.
The treefolk were stunned. They had never heard that the Phoenix Emperor had a chick! This was bad. Wouldn't they be accused of stealing him? And, as it turned out, they had every reason to worry.
The title and blurb aren't polished yet. I'll revise them over time.
