Jiang Dan transmigrates into a horror game, becoming the “wife” of the haunted house's male owner.
Mission: She must make her ghostly husband grow tired of her within one hundred days to return to her original world.
Jiang Dan adjusts her leopard-print glasses. Reflected in the lenses is her ghostly husband's deathly pale face. His long black hair is loosely tied behind his waist, and he is wearing a pink apron. Humming a tune, he is making her something to eat.
“Almost ready, darling.” The ghostly husband turns his head. Beneath the dark circles around his eyes, his bloodshot black pupils slowly swivel to face her. His eyes curve into a smile, and his voice is soft and gentle. “I made your favorite today.”
Jiang Dan thinks confidently: I won't need a hundred days. I can make him sick of me in just one.
Because the original game is actually a dark romance game, but the version she's entered is the reverse-escape edition.
In the original version, the developers posted a guide to completing the missions:
1. Your husband allows you to go out. But you must stay in touch with him by phone at all times, twenty-four hours a day, and be home punctually by ten. [If you don't answer his calls or come home on time, something terrible will happen.]
Jiang Dan (curious): What terrible thing could happen?
2. Your husband occasionally likes to wear women's clothing. When you see him dressed that way, be sure to respect him and praise how unique he is!
Jiang Dan: What a strange hobby.
3. Your husband can't stand food with any weird smells. Don't eat it in front of him, or it will seriously damage your relationship.
Jiang Dan (raising an eyebrow): What a coincidence. Luosifen is my favorite.
4. Your husband likes delicate, cute girls. Being too sloppy will also damage your relationship.
Jiang Dan: Rolls her eyes.
How hard could it be?! She just has to do the opposite of everything the guide says to win.
Jiang Dan is confident. She figures it won't take more than two days to escape this haunted world.
She immediately does the opposite: short shorts, a ragged T-shirt, and no makeup. She eats luosifen at home and treats her ghostly husband like an errand boy, calling him over whenever she wants and dismissing him just as quickly.
Sure enough, when her ghostly husband, who is cutting up a plate of fruit in the kitchen, smells the luosifen, his gentle, smiling expression turns utterly pained. He opens his mouth as if he is about to throw up.
But the next day, her ghostly husband still isn't disgusted with her. Instead, he stays just as affectionate and clings to Jiang Dan, even though she reeks from head to toe.
Jiang Dan decides to up the ante.
She knocks all the food he has made onto the floor and gives him a scolding.
But her ghostly husband merely picks up the dishes in silence and gives her an apologetic smile. “If you don't like it, darling, I'll make something else, until you do.”
Jiang Dan starts taking this seriously: this is a little harder than I thought.
On the third day, the fourth day, the fifth day... Jiang Dan tries absolutely everything, but the “Disgust” meter... remains at zero...
She starts to panic.
Later, she decides to test what the guide means by “something terrible.” She starts going out early, coming home late, and ignoring his calls.
At last, a crack appears in her evil husband's gentle expression.
She thinks she's succeeded, but then the System warns her.
[Warning! Warning! Host has triggered a hidden trap. The ghostly husband's Grudge meter has been triggered. Something terrible will happen.]
When she sees that even with the Grudge meter at one hundred, the Disgust meter is still at zero, Jiang Dan's vision goes black.
She sees her ghostly husband's hands reaching for her, trying to grab her.
Theme: Good deeds bring good fortune; treat others with sincerity.
