Winter City has a princess who lives in seclusion. Everyone who knows of her says she's reserved and level-headed, and would never get involved in trouble.
No one expected that when the most fearsome and vindictive man in Winter City returned, she would boldly come to him and propose marriage.
They discuss the engagement. He says there will be no ceremony and no guests, and she puts up with it.
He says he'll be a proper boyfriend, but doesn't live up to his promise.
Instead, the princess learns to take good care of him. Worried he won't like Chinese food, she even goes out of her way to learn Western cooking, but he doesn't know.
Later, he suddenly disappears for several days. Usually obedient and never troublesome, she gets angry and leaves home, refusing to return.
He stays behind alone in an empty house, then goes to stand outside the princess's building in the middle of the night. He can't understand what he's done wrong, yet he can't bear to be without her.
Later, she leaves in anger once again. The duke holds on to her as she turns to go, lowering his head and pleading, "Don't go. Don't leave me."
The duke doesn't understand love, but he gives the princess an unfading rose because she once said, "Roses won't wither if you nurture them with love."
He doesn't know what sweet talk is, but earnestly explains love as he understands it. He says, "Because I have you, my rose, I won't envy anyone else's rose garden anymore."
Then, when their feelings are at odds, she says to him coldly and mercilessly, "Do I really have to leave for you to prove how much you love me?"
He thinks she's joking, never imagining she would really leave for good.
He panics and searches everywhere for her. When he learns about all the years she spent secretly loving him, his heart is torn apart. Then he hears the people around him say, "The sky is so vast. Will a bird that flies away ever come back?"
He never expected that a casual remark would come true: He would become her sky, and wherever she flew, she would always be in his arms.
